“Without early help, the picture is bleak.  A child who is four or five months behind at the end of first grade has only one chance in five or six of ever reading at grade level in  a typical school environment.”  - Joseph Torgesen, Director Emeritus, Florida Center for Reading Research at Florida State University.

The READ Foundation has provided research-based reading instruction to thousands of struggling readers in kindergarten through second grade since 2000.

READ works — our results are measurable. On average, READ improves students’ reading proficiency by one full grade level after they participate in approximately 45 45-minute tutoring sessions.

READ has also enriched the lives and futures of thousands of New York City teens by providing them with professional training, community service opportunities and paid jobs.
