Tutors are carefully selected middle and high school students who are trained to tutor younger children in a research-based reading curriculum. In programs that are at K-8 schools, the tutors and students often attend the same school. At other sites, the tutors are students who attend high schools in the community.

- To respond appropriately to Lead Teacher feedback and immediately implement suggestions
- To accurately record student progress daily
- To provide students with positive reinforcement for good behavior
- To demonstrate patience and understanding with students
- To maintain excellent academic and behavior standing
